You can usually fix the problem by restarting the problem application, or clicking on the icon to trigger whatever the hidden notification was. Annoying them seems to have been the answer to me. It will clear the desktop and start menu to a blank canvas. I dowloaded the microsoft update last night and afterwards, despite my task bar being on auto-hide, my task bar is up all the time. And its very easy!

Also I noticed the task bar isn't transparent anymore, but other windows still are, been wanting to turn that off but I forgot where it is, I'll find it again eventually. With that everything works fine. Now the Taskbar is always... Corrected the same.
