You may lose recent program changes, but not your data. The file that you want to extract should be located inside the install.wim file on a retail Win 7 DVD. Of course, the Windows system disc does have what it takes to boot UEFI. My problem began when I found I could not invoke System Repair from my Recovery Disc or from the Windows 7 install disc.

If this is the case and you want to troubleshoot further you can use Windows 7 Disk Management to assign a temporary drive letter to the hidden partition.
