  1. I just went into TV Setup and used my zip code and that got things working again after a channel scan (US ATSC tuners).
  2. I have two other machines running Windows 7 in other parts of the house and they work fine with no changes needed to the host files as mentioned in other posts.
  3. Trust me, I have been watching log files and the Even viewer almost every hour and I have run TV setup at least 30 times in the last 3 days...AT LEAST.
  4. One other thing I'm trying to check is if the WMC propdesc file for Indexing may have changed (need changing) the directory c:\windows\ehome\ contains a file mcsrchPH.propdesc which lists a specification

  6. Jeff July 27, 2015 Cameron, Thanks.
  7. Uninstalling and reinstalling WMC has resulted in the same error, effectively rendering my HTPC useless.
  8. Simply Say "Xbox off" and your TV, Stereo and Xbox all shut off at once…got to love that!

Martin... The problem remains the same. The only other thing I would recommend is trying to remove the Windows Media Center feature and then re-add it. Reply Patrick Brady July 26, 2015 The problem I am having is that my Media Center seems to be downloading the guide from the old provider.

I use Theatre, and there is an option in the settings under EVR (I believe - doing this from memory as at work) but changing to "Just Under" removed the black Hopefully someone with more technical know-how than me will figure what and how to fix it. It totally fixed my problem and was very easy. I've spent over 40 hours trying to find a solution or even accurate information on the cause of the problem.

Thanks, Cameron. I'll post an update here once I've reached a conclusion. Turned it back on showed hardware and again installed the driver for that (even tho it is same company and program it will not detect in media center and will throw I use WMC every day, and not ready to move on as nothing else really seems to give the ease of use here.

Reply Cameron Fuller July 26, 2015 I would recommend changing your DNS to the google ones ( and and then doing an ipconfig /flushdns. I cant even get a tv tuner signal in the wmc anymore. How can I can it? http://ict4m.org/windows-media/windows-media-center-vista-not-working.php That applies to most of my cablecard channels, but I received the message even on local channels that are copy freely. I get no errors when updating the guide but all listing disappear on the 26th in my area (92804) tried other zips but still no data being downloaded. Reply Michael Barone July 23, 2015 Thank you very helpful post to a recent WMC annoyance.

select "OK", select "guide" and your TV channels should be populated into the guide. I removed WMC as a feature, rebooted, added it back, rebooted, and still get Zap2It EPG. Click Yes to confirm that you want to move the Mediacenterdatastore.db file to the Recycle Bin. 5. Check This Out It promises a 60 day money back guarantee if not satisfied.

I've had a ticket in to MS since 7/26 and no response. I still like the Music program whereby is scrolls slowly all the album covers. Thanks for mentioning how you worked around it with the google public DNS entries as that may help others running into similar situations.

With thanks in anticipation of your help and ideas.Martin...

This is why after 7 years of the guide working there has been a change in behavior. Reply Share Share this post on Digg Del.icio.us Technorati Twitter

So far, we have resolved a large number of data quality issues, addressed the series recording issues (if not, let us know!), and are working on the cable card issues currently.

As for the installer I used, the dropbox link that Windows Central posted was dead by the time I attempted to download. Reply Jeff September 9, 2015 Just a quick THANKS - was able to just run the full set up again, and resolved the problem for me! (A couple "small" issues came I have used it in the past. I'm not married to it but is is pretty functional.

Alas, didn't work out for me. Reply Tom October 23, 2015 You are right, my guide was working prior to my pc crashing. Delete all files in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\ehome folder 5. Last edited by DavidinCT; 09-10-2015 at 09:57 AM.

Reply Dee August 10, 2015 Thank you, Mike!! thanks for the article. Once the indexes are rebuilt (may take some time) Media Center ADD RECORDING SEARCH worked just fine. Just need to wait for two weeks and see.

Rerunning the TV signal setup with a nearby zip code did the trick. Thanks Reply Russell August 3, 2015 Arlington 76001 worked for me, though I went to the MSN TV site, and my actual zip code worked. FYI 60640 in Chicago has no guide so off to find a different zip code.
