Do not use your computer during this process. When I try to play it, it freezes up tight along with my computer. I have tried the repair facility using the Vista Home Premium disk but it does not repair Media Player.

Couldn't listen to my usual radio over the internet and many programs just failed to open even as administrator... I've tried downloading it again, transfering working files from another computer, the suggestions above and still nothing works. Same results. It will re-register over 40 dll files required for for the smooth functioning of WMP. I just wish that in the Vista Help section they would mention this option. Went to this Knowledge Base article (947541) and ran the Microsoft Fix It. in osx just delete something and repalce it, 99.9% of the time this solves any problem.

It will play everything without having to load any missing codecs. turning that off fixed my media player problems and also made these admin request pop ups stop.
