It's an AMD CPU, ECS Motherboard, 4GB RAM, 1GB Hitachi HD, a 400Watt PSU & a 1Gb/s NIC. In fact, now I'm actually worse off than when I posted this. Deleting or renaming the Download folder leaves the new updates nowhere to go to be saved so I wouldn't recommend it. the last time that i did this, which was a few days ago, the scanning-for-updates took 42 minutes before i finally was prompted to install any updates..after having installed the "activex-control", Well apparently I need this now as I did the same thing. I stopped the Update Process, then changed the name of that folder & restarted the process. Now, on to the problem & hopefully a resolution.I've installed Windows XP Pro 32-bit on a system that built from parts.
Then I installed Firefox because, well IE6 is useless. On all four machines that were purchased from the same hardware vendor (very different models), Windows Update broke.
