That said, I wouldn't recommend my approach to someone else. See a summary of all my Defensive Computing postings. A case like this could easily cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Windows 8.1 requires a CPU 5x faster than XP does, 15x more RAM and 10x more hardrive space so it would not really make sense to try and run Win 8.1
