The steps you provided fixed the Windows update error which I have been trying to fix for several months in a matter of minutes. The trouble shooter showed 1 step as not completed, with a new error message. and "Most recent checks for updates" says "never" ... Then I googled the error code instead of the error message and 2 minutes later my windows were updating. Solution 2 worked for me.
