Can someone tell me how to activate the icons so they will work again? Thank you for helping us maintain CNET's great community. Desktop icon's won't show ? The easiest way is to download Microsoft's free (but unsupported) TweakUI PowerToy; there is a tool specifically for repairing desktop icons.

But the shortcut icons are still dead. And says the file was successfully added to registry. You can grab the file from the Microsoft System Center website. It should work in your case.
Can you see all the Items when you click on start button ?
