You _have_ to have one of those receivers, because the cord of a play-n-charge kit DOES NOT CARRY DATA, only power for the wireless controller's battery....I wonder if the next-gen controllers I disconnect it and the controller turns off as if to show there is no charge to it whatsoever. From what I have seen in videos as long as the light comes on it should be charging.
